2007 America's Cup in Valencia
A Spanish First
For the first time in its 152 history, the America's Cup will be defended on European shores. Valencia is proud to host the 2007 America's cup.
Coming to Valencia
On the 26th November, 2003, it was announced that Valencia, Spain would be the Host City of the 32nd America's Cup.
A perfect sailing destination
Valencia is an excellent destination for Europe’s first America’s cup defence for many reasons, not the least of which being it’s very favourable wind conditions and existing infrastructure for handling high numbers of tourists.
A village for the America's Cup is planned to be built in the port to host the team bases, with public access allowing fans to get close to the action. The two race-courses will be within just a 15-minute tow of the bases, and racing could take place just metres from the shoreline, making the action accessible to crowds on the beach and breakwater.
Racing schedule
This time around the America's cup is being run a little differently, in an effort to make America's Cup racing a more regular feature on the sailing calendar.
There will be a series of preliminary Acts (14), called the Louis Vuitton Acts, that have been developed to ensure there is America's Cup competition in each year leading up to the 2007 Match. These Acts, to be hosted at different locations around the world, allow the teams to measure themselves alongside their fellow competitors at each event, and keep race fans firmly focused on America's Cup racing.
In 2007, the final Act will consist of an opening Fleet race, for all the competitors of the 32nd America's Cup. Then the Challengers will square off in the Louis Vuitton Cup, the winner of which will race the Swiss Team Alinghi in the 32nd America's Cup Match.
